Active Aging: Train for the Life You Want to Keep Living
At 70, a fitness goal can still be aesthetic.
At 70, a fitness goal can still be aesthetic.
You are allowed to want stronger arms at 70.
You are allowed to want your clothes to fit better at 76.
But the definition of a great program often becomes wider.
Can you carry groceries?
Can you climb stairs?
Can you get out of a chair confidently?
Can you walk farther?
Can you travel?
Can you play with grandchildren?
Can you maintain independence?
For adults 65 and older, current guidance emphasizes a combination of aerobic activity, muscle strengthening, and balance work. The general target remains at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity per week, muscle-strengthening activity on at least two days, and balance activity. People who cannot meet the full targets should be active according to their abilities.
Strength training can support everyday functions such as standing from a chair, climbing stairs, and carrying groceries.
Older does not mean incapable.
It means the program should care about the things that matter now.
Your next step
Train for the mirror if you want. Train for independence because it matters.
